Hi, new to the site, I was wondering how often the SHAR-pei goes through her head cycle. My shar-pei is 2 years old now. But every so often it seems to be back to back. Her last cycle was in August, but it seems she has started again seeing that its now November. I noticed the blood stains and when I walk her you can see a droplet from behind.
Is this normal or does she have some kind of infection?

I wish I had the answer , My Shar-pei Champagne just started the spotting and my male Godiva had to be separated and he is fighting every chance he gets to be up under her they are 1 month apart and we left them in the back yard yesterday no more than half hour to relieve them self as they were inside the whole day when we went to bring them in they were having a good time I couldn't believe that they would start this young. I have to take her in to make sure she is fine and not with puppies as i don't want that. at this time.

Estrus cycles can vary somewhat but usually run about 6 months on average between cycles....some go longer between and some may go a bit shorter. It may just be she is having irregular cycles or it could be an infection. One always wants to watch for potential infections (pyometra, acute metritis) following a heat cycle whenever there is a discharge, ESPECIALLY if the discharge is purulent and there are other symptoms, (lethargy, vomiting, decrease or loss of appetite, dehydration, fever, etc.).
There are some herbal products available that are supposed to help regulate heat cycles and improve general reproductive health. Many Vet/Pet suppliers carry these. One product is called "pregnant dog Pills" and the other is called "Breed Heat". I haven't used these myself (on my dogs of course...lol), but I know a few breeders who swear by these. Of course you will want to consult with your Vet before using any OTC medication.
